Desert Ridge Inspiration
I’m thrilled to introduce our latest endeavor, the Desert Ridge Project, located in St. George, UT. It’s a project close to home (literally) because this is the beginning of our personal home after we picked up our family and moved to the area one year ago. We’re still in the very early stages of plan development so I’ve been taking the time to really hone in on the style and overall direction we want to take the designs. The beginning stages has involved scouring endless types of floor plans, gathering images for our mood board, and meeting with various professionals that will bring everything to life. I’m excited to share a little bit of the journey with you and take you along through each stage of the project. Today we’ll be focusing on the exterior finishes and how our home will look on the outside. I love organic, natural materials so I’m hoping to showcase different textures like stone, plaster, natural wood and limestone that will compliment the surrounding desert climate we live in.
I want my home to be flooded with as much sunshine as possible so incorporating beautiful ways to add a lot of windows will bring in that natural light. We also found our DREAM property with beautiful views of St. George geography and want to be able to see every angle. I’ve been going back and forth between light or dark exterior windows but these images have finally convinced me that the contrast will feel complete with the natural materials we’re selecting.
The other key factor that I’m hoping will set our build apart will be utilizing level changes and pop-outs, while focusing on certain material placements that will make a statement. To offset these stronger material moments, we’ll plan to soften the home with smooth stucco that will create a more smooth texture for accent materials to stand out against. Because this is our personal home, I am hoping to share more of the process, including the set-backs, pivot points, and the realities of a living project where there are a lot of successes and a lot of lessons learned. Stay tuned for our next post where we’ll start to share the architecture process and how we began discovering our floor plan!
Cheers!
