Round Up: Bedding
One of the most common frustrations I hear when it comes to designing a bedroom space is usually “I can never make my bed look as good as the photos I see on Pinterest or my Instagram feed”. First I want to clear up that those spaces you see are steamed, tweaked, fluffed and zhooshed to perfection behind the scenes to set up for a single shot, so to compare your own lived-in space to a photo that took a lot of time to create would be near impossible. Speaking from experience, it’s very rare for my own bedroom to have that feel all of the time. But, it is nice to know if I wanted it to look that good - I could make it happen. I hope these pairings and sources can help you define your own style and make your room feel complete when you want it to -even if it is only once a month.
I love a bed that feels bright and happy and I’ve found I can achieve that by starting with a solid white/neutral duvet or a white patterned duvet. I almost never stray from that starting point (there are exceptions) and will then add in the color or patterns in other elements, like patterned sheets or a colorful quilt. Imagine the duvet is a blank slate, a fresh start that you can layer on other elements. Here are a few tried and true white duvets that are a perfect starting point.

Tip: I will usually match at least one set of pillows to the duvet or coverlet so we recommend to order the matching pillow shams.
After establishing the duvet selection, the next step is to determine who this space is for and what the overall design of the room is (i.e. modern, traditional, coastal, youthful, etc). I like to add in textures, patterns, or colors into the other bedding selections that will match the overall feel of the room, so figuring out those two factors will help me decide what I will look for to layer in. For a modern feel, I will keep colors and patterns more minimal in the sheets or coverlet. If the bedding is meant for a child, I’ll mix in brighter colors and use geometric or floral patterns. You can achieve a more cottage feel with quilts, or a vintage feel by adding unique blankets. Are you designing a cabin space? Think about pairing the bedding with flannels, plaids and chunkier textiles. A coastal space would be a perfect place to use selections that have a lighter feel. I’ve paired some of my favorite combinations and included some other great options you can check out to incorporate into your own designs.
