Tuesday Tip: Displaying Family Photos

The most important part of designing a clients home is making sure their space reflects who they are and is filled with things that they love. One of the biggest ways we can make a home feel personal is by incorporating family photos and memories, but in a way that feels cohesive with the design. We’ve come up with a few of tried and true tips that you can use to elevate your space with personal photos.

Tip 1: Utilize hallways to hang family photos and fill up un-used space. Use artwork that feels proportionate to the size of your walls and try incorporating a gallery wall or fewer but large frames that continues down the hall that will draw your eyes along the pathway.

Tip 2: A gallery wall can come in so many shapes and sizes. You can keep things uniform or go the more eclectic route. To keep the design consistent, make at least one part of your gallery wall similar. For example, using photos with a consistent color palette, like black and white, while switching up the frame color still adds character but also keeps things feeling cohesive. Black and White photos can add a neutral feel that can go with any space, while color can stand out more in a space.

Tip 3: Find a corner of your home that could use a little extra love! Whether that’s above furniture or next to a doorway, adding stacked art can be a fun way to fill in your home with memories.

Tip 4: Ledges are a unique way to layer artwork together on an open wall. I love this idea when I need to mix up how I display my photos as everything starts feeling the same or I’ve already used another gallery wall technique on a nearby wall.

Tip 5: Layering in small frames to your every day decor is a simple way to display your memories. Add them in a built in or lean them on another larger art print behind for a collected feel.
